Air Fryer French Fries for One

Ingredients
  

  • 1 medium russet potato, about 8 ounces
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons avocado oil or olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt, divided
  • 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder, optional
  • Pinch of black pepper, optional

Equipment

Method
 

  1. Scrub and optionally peel the potato, then cut it into even 1/4-inch sticks.
  2. Cover the sticks with cold water and soak for 20 to 30 minutes.
  3. Drain, rinse, and pat the potatoes completely dry.
  4. Preheat the air fryer to 380°F (193°C) for 3 minutes.
  5. Toss the dry sticks with oil, half the salt, and any optional seasonings.
  6. Arrange in a loose layer and air fry at 380°F (193°C) for 10 minutes.
  7. Shake thoroughly, increase to 400°F (204°C), and cook for 7 to 11 minutes more, shaking every 4 minutes.
  8. Remove when golden yellow, crisp outside, and tender inside. Season with the remaining salt and serve immediately.

Notes

Drying the soaked potato thoroughly is essential for crisping.
Cook in batches if the sticks cannot sit in a loose layer.
