Ingredients

  • 4 ounces 115 g ground beef, preferably 85% lean
  • 1/8 teaspoon fine salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Pinch of ground black pepper
  • 1 hamburger bun
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • 1 small lettuce leaf washed and dried
  • 1 tomato slice washed and patted dry

Equipment

  • Basket air fryer with room around one 4-inch patty
  • Kitchen scale
  • measuring spoons
  • Small plate for raw beef
  • Separate clean serving plate
  • Thin spatula suitable for the basket surface
  • instant-read food thermometer

Method

  1. Preheat to 375°F (190°C) if required by your model. Begin with a clean basket and drip area.
  2. Gently shape the cold beef into one patty about 4 inches wide and 1/2 inch thick. Make a shallow central indentation and season both sides with salt, garlic powder and pepper.
  3. Arrange the patty directly in the basket with space around it. Air fry at 375°F (190°C) for an estimated 9–12 minutes, flipping after about 5 minutes. Begin checking at 8 minutes.
  4. Probe from the side into the thickest center, checking more than one spot. Continue in short intervals until the beef reaches 160°F (71°C). Do not judge safety by color or juices.
  5. Move to a separate clean plate and rest 2 minutes. Spread mustard on the bun, add the lettuce and tomato, assemble and serve.

Notes

Timing varies with model and patty thickness; 160°F (71°C) is the required endpoint, regardless of timer.
Raw ground beef keeps 1–2 days at 40°F (4°C) or colder. Never partly cook and store to finish later.
Refrigerate cooked leftovers within 2 hours, or 1 hour above 90°F (32°C); use in 3–4 days and reheat to 165°F (74°C).
Time and nutrition are estimates, not measured recipe-test results. Cheese, extra sauces and sides are excluded.
